Our History
The Ice Cream Caboose is the result of a business plan developed 35 years ago by Dave Dumont. For two seasons, he ran a small stand on property owned by the Lehigh Valley Railroad. That was until Mr. Dumont found the 1945 Caboose from a train hobbyist store in Sayre Pennsylvania. It's a former Lehigh Valley Black Diamond Caboose. There's a good possibility that this Caboose went through Groton on it's way back and forth from Sayre to Auburn NY. It weighs about 25 tons and was shipped to Groton on a specially built trailer that was 70 feet long. It took over a year to fully restore the caboose with the outside being mostly original. The Caboose opened its windows July 4th, 1991.
